Guide
How long does a kitchen renovation take?
A kitchen renovation runs in stages: strip-out, first fix, units, worktops, tiling and finishing. The timescale depends on the size of the kitchen, whether plumbing or electrics move, and how quickly units and worktops arrive. Templated stone worktops add a wait between fitting the units and finishing the room.

What are the stages?
Nearly every kitchen follows the same order.
- Strip out the old kitchen and clear the room.
- First fix: plumbing, electrics and any wall work.
- Plaster and make good the walls and ceiling.
- Fit the base and wall units, then the doors.
- Template and fit the worktop.
- Splashback tiling, flooring, sealing and snagging.
What makes a kitchen take longer?
Moving the sink or hob, taking out a wall, or discovering damp or old wiring all add time. So does a delivery arriving short of one unit.
Why does the worktop add a wait?
Stone and quartz worktops are templated after the units are fitted, then cut off site. That gap is set by the fabricator, not the fitter.
Can I use the kitchen during the work?
Not fully. Plan for a period without a sink or cooker, and set up a kettle and microwave elsewhere in the house.
How do I keep it on track?
Order everything before the start date and have it on site. A kitchen with all parts present runs far smoother than one waiting on deliveries.
